From Fear to Freedom:

Chris B's Transformative Journey at Texas Recovery Centers

A Reluctant Beginning

Chris B’s path to recovery began with hesitation. Like many facing the prospect of treatment, he initially resisted the idea of entering a rehabilitation program.

“At first I didn’t want to be there,” Chris recalls. “I was like, man, I don’t like it. Man, I don’t want to be here. It’s not going to help me.”

However, this reluctance soon gave way to a profound transformation that would reshape not only his life but the lives of his loved ones as well.

The Impact of Addiction on Family

Before his recovery, Chris’s addiction cast a long shadow over his family relationships. The extent of this impact became clear only after he completed his treatment at TRC.

“My family, my wife, my kids, they all were afraid of me, and I didn’t know this until after I got out of rehab,” Chris shares. “My kids came to me and they were like, ‘Dad, we were really afraid of you because we didn’t know what to say to you. And we didn’t know how to talk to you because you would always blow up on us.'”

This fear extended beyond verbal outbursts. Chris’s family lived in constant worry about his safety and the potential consequences of his actions.

“We were worried about you because we didn’t know if someone was going to hurt you or you were going to hurt somebody. And we were going to lose you again to prison,” his children confided.

The TRC Difference: A Family Atmosphere

Despite his initial reservations, Chris soon found himself embraced by the warm, supportive environment at Texas Recovery Centers. The staff’s genuine care and kindness played a crucial role in opening his eyes to the possibility of recovery.

“After I got there and met the staff and saw how loving and kind and genuine everyone at TRC is, it opened my eyes and enlightened me a whole lot,” Chris explains.

This family-like atmosphere became a cornerstone of Chris’s recovery journey, providing him with the support and encouragement he needed to face his addiction head-on.

The Power of Peer Support

At TRC, Chris found strength not only in the staff but also in his fellow clients. He formed close bonds with other men in recovery, particularly Randy L and Curtis M, whom he affectionately refers to as “the three amigos.”

“They had a nickname for me there. They used to call me the Godfather because I was older,” Chris remembers with a smile.

These connections provided Chris with a sense of camaraderie and belonging, essential elements in the recovery process.

Veteran's Group: A Special Kind of Support

As a veteran, Chris found additional support through TRC’s Veteran’s group. This specialized program, led by dedicated staff members, provided a space for Chris to address the unique challenges faced by veterans in recovery.

“Mr. Noel, Miss Darlene, and all the veterans there, and other veteran staff, they really helped me out a lot,” Chris affirms. “It became amazing.”

The Impact of Compassionate Staff

Throughout his time at TRC, Chris was deeply impacted by the unwavering support of the staff. He particularly credits Amanda and Gretchen for their constant encouragement.

“They just kept me going, man. They never had anything bad to say. It was always something uplifting and positive,” Chris recalls fondly.

This positive reinforcement played a crucial role in Chris’s recovery, helping him maintain his motivation and belief in his ability to overcome addiction.

A New Life in Recovery

Today, Chris’s life bears little resemblance to his days of active addiction. He speaks with joy about his newfound sobriety and the love he now experiences in his life.

“Life in recovery is fun. I’m having a blast,” Chris exclaims. “I never thought that I could have this much fun and be loved as much as I’m loved now being sober.”

At the time of his testimonial, Chris was approaching a significant milestone: six months of sobriety.

“May 12th I will be 6 months clean and sober. I don’t have a thought about drinking, doing cocaine, nothing,” he shares proudly.

A Ringing Endorsement

Chris’s transformation has left him with an overwhelming sense of gratitude towards Texas Recovery Centers. He doesn’t hesitate to recommend TRC to others struggling with addiction.

“If I was to ever relapse or have thoughts of wanting to go back and do drugs and alcohol, I would highly recommend that I would go back to TRC,” Chris states. “And I would recommend anyone else that has a problem with addiction and doesn’t know how to deal with it to contact TRC.”

He adds with conviction, “I promise you, you will enjoy your stay there and they will make you feel wanted and loved and make you feel like you are a person.”
